Blue Jays soar past Tarpons

The Blue Jays moved closer to the District 4-1A baseball title as St. Edmund cruised to an 18-1 mercy-rule win over South Cameron.
St. Edmund (20-7, 6-1) closes district play at Merryville (8-14, 1-5) on Monday.
The Blue Jays exploded for 13 runs in the top of the first to take early control of the game.
Jack Miller walked, Brock Bieber was hit by a pitch and Brad Miller walked to load the bases.
Jack Miller scored when Dawson Ardoin reached on an error.
Bryce Vidrine doubled in courtesy runner Hunter Brown and Brad Miller for 3-0 lead.

Patterson stuns Lady Bulldogs

IOTA – The Lumberjills jumped out to 4-0 lead and No. 24 Patterson held on for a 4-2 vicrory over the No. 9 Iota Lady Bulldogs in the opening round of the Class 3-A softball playoffs.
Patterson (9-16-1) will now face the winner between No. 8 South Beauregard ad No. 25 Baker in the regional round.
Iota ends the season with a 20-10 record.
After a scoreless first inning, Patterson scored two runs in the top of the second, when Madelyn Harrington reached on a fielder’s choice, Katelyn Larson singled and they both scored on a double by Gabby Marcel.

Eunice tennis honors seniors

The Eunice tennis team sent its four seniors out in fine fashion Thursday with a 7-2 win over Lafayette Christian Academy.
In boys doubles, Zach Joubert and Ting Jiang grabbed an 8-1 win over LCA’s Silas Lafleur and Kaleb Lafleur.
In boys singles, Jiang earned a 8-3 win over Kaleb Lafleur, while Joubert fell in an 8-6 tiebreaker to Silas Lafleur.
In girls singles, Anya Williams cruised to a 6-0 victory over LCA’s Mia Theroit and Lady Cat Melodee Kennedy earned an 8-2 win over Samantha Boudreaux.

Lady Jays win back-to-back titles

The Lady Jays earned the District 4-1A softball championship with a 10-0 mercy-rule win over South Cameron.
St. Edmund grabbed the 2018 title, its first since 2004.
After threatening in the first inning on a single by Karleigh Soileau, the Lady Jay exploded for three runs in the bottom of the second begun when senior Olivia Clark walked and later scored on a sacrifice by Jaycee Cobb.
Anna Belle Fontenot and Kennedy Ardoin both reached on Lady Tarpon errors to keep the rally alive.

Grand Lake clips Blue Jays

Grand Lake scored three runs in the top of the ninth and then held off St. Edmund to grab a 6-5 District 4-1 win.
After both defenses held tough for a scoreless eighth inning, the Hornets (10-13, 3-2) rallied to take the lead as Bobby Garza singled, Kris Reina reached on an error and Drake Johnson walked to load the bases.
Devin David was then hit by a pitch to plate Garza, while Reina crossed home plate on a passed ball and Johnson scored on a ground out by Kade Massey.
