Northwest runs past Bobcats

OPELOUSAS – Eunice began strong, but Northwest finished with a 82-35 win over the Bobcats in the Opelousas Catholic tournament.
In the season opener for the Bobcats, Eunice jumped out to a 23-15 first quarter lead.
Trey Cooper hit an early three-pointer and Simeon Ardoin added a drive in the lane.
After a trey from Northwest’s Kameron Jackson, the Bobcats answered with a 9-0 run including another three-pointer by Cooper.
Northwest responded with six straight points before Dedrick Vigers converted a three-point play to push the Bobcats ahead, 17-9.

Lady Bobcats fall in Acadiana High tourney

SCOTT – Eunice battled the Lady Rams in the first half before Acadiana High earned a 41-34 win over the Lady Bobcats.
Acadiana High (5-2) jumped out to a 16-10 first quarter lead, aided by six points from Nikki Goodman.
Madison Freeman and Shanyia Toussiant scored five points each in the period for the Lady Cats.
Eunice rallied for a 15-10 second quarter surge to close the gap to 26-25 at the break.
Toussaint exploded for nine points including two treys, while Harmony Jason and Olivia Thibodeaux chipped in a bucket and Madison Freeman added a free throw.

Blue Jays fall to Vinton, 47-30

St. Edmund opened with a 7-0 run against the Lions, but Vinton finished with a 47-30 victory over the Blue Jays.
Kieran Davis scored on a put-back bucket, Henry Brown nailed a trey and Esston Coleman scored in the lane as St. Edmund jumped out to an early lead.
Vinton answered with a 5-0 run before Davis scored again on a baseline shot.
The Lions closed the gap to 9-8 before Brown hit a free throw in the closing minute of the first quarter.
After Vinton tied the game, Davis pushed in a lay-up for the Jays to retake the lead.

Kaplan downs Lady Jays

The Lady Jays kept the game close in the first half before Kaplan rolled to 51-34 win over St. Edmund.
The Lady Pirates (4-1) jumped out to a 5-0 lead before free throws by Savannah DeVillier and Mary Beth Lafleur helped St. Edmund (3-2) close the gap to 5-3.
Anna Belle Fontenot scored in the lane as the Lady Jays battled to stay in the game, but a 9-0 run pushed Kaplan ahead, 14-5.
Lafleur hit a trey and later added two free throws as the Lady Jays closed the gap to 14-10 as the first quarter ended.

Lady Jays fall in Turkey Tourney finale

VILLE PLATTE – French Settlement jumped out to a 19-9 first quarter lead as the Lady Lions rolled to a 63-39 win over St. Edmund Wednesday in the Turkey Tournament held at Sacred Heart of Ville Platte.
The Lady Jays (3-1) will entertain Kaplan at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
French Settlement (6-0) opened the first quarter with a 10-2 run, aided by back-to-back treys from Dannah Martin.
Savannah DeVillier hit two free throws for the first Lady Jay points of the game.
