Bobcats, Bulldogs advance to semis

The Eunice High Bobcats overcame the Madison Prep Chargers as well as a thick fog that appered over Bobcat Stadium for much of the game on their way to a 41-12 victory, earning a semifinal spot in the Class 3A football playoffs.
The No. 2 Bobcats will battle No. 3 Kaplan at home Friday night as the Pirates earned a 22-12 win over No. 6 Lake Charles College Prep to advance.
The Bobcats used an interception by Javondre Edwards to take control in the early going of the contest.

Lady Jays run past Sacred Heart

VILLE PLATTE – St. Edmund went 2-1 in the Turkey Tournament as the Lady Jays rolled to a 48-30 win Wednesday night over the host Sacred Heart Lady Trojans.
St. Edmund jumped out to a 16-9 first quarter lead, sparked by four points from both Kinsley Marcantel and Rebecca Benoit along with three points from Tanzy Miller and Mary Beth Lafleur.
Amanda Bergeron led Sacred Heart with four points.
The Lady Trojans answered with a 9-6 second quarter run to close the gap to 22-18 at the break.

Bobcats face Chargers in quarters

The Bobcats are in the quarterfinals for the first time since 2008 as No 2 Eunice will entertain No. 26 Madison Prep 7 p.m. Friday.
“It is always fun to practice during the Thanksgiving holidays.” Eunice head coach Paul Trosclair said. “We even have a pep rally today after practice so that will be fun.”
Trosclair said he is pleased with the Bobcats senior leadership and how the younger players progressed.
“It has been a good year as we advanced to the quarterfinals,” the coach said. “I hope we get to play some more.”

Lady Jays split wins in tourney

VILLE PLATTE – St. Edmund cruised to a 40-19 win over Westminster Christian Academy Tuesday in the second day of the at the Turkey Tournament at Sacred Heart of Ville Platte.
The Lady Jays (2-1) jumped out to a 12-2 dvantage as Mary Beth Lafleur pushed in 10 points to lead St. Ed’s.
After the Lady Crusaders closed the gap to 14-6 early in the second period, St. Edmund opened up with a 22-6 lead aided by four points from Lafleur and Kinsley Marcantel.
Tanzy Miller hit a jumper with 23 seconds left to lift the Lady Jays’ lead to 24-8 at intermission.

Basile runs past Tigers in comeback thriller

BASILE – In a rematch from last year’s Class 1-A playoffs, the Basile Bearcats battled the Montgomery Tigers in game between two different styles of offense.
Montgomery led 22-6 early in the second period, but Basile rallied in the second half to grab a 63-40 win.
The No. 6 Bearcats now advance to the quarterfinals and travel to No. 3 Kentwood after the Kangaroos earned a 34-6 win over No. 19 Merryville.
It only took two plays for Montgomery to grab an early lead as Tiger quarterback Logan Graves connected with J.T. Turner for a 45-yard scoring strike.
