What is Mardi Gras and why is it celebrated? The following, courtesy of Newspaper Metro, gives you the origin of Mardi Gras and the celebrations of Mardi Gras. Mardi Gras is a celebration that immediately precedes the Christian season of Lent. Fanfare, food and friends are keys to the festivities.

Art students present Valentines to Eunice Manor

Highland Elementary students who attend Amy Myers’ art class had been working on Valentine surprises. Some wrote notes, colored pictures, constructed Valentine bears, and some worked on a large Valentine mural. These items were all presented to residents of Eunice Manor during their Valentine party.

Cajun Mardi Gras Daniel & The Lions at Glendale

Class Act Student of the Week

This week’s Student of the Week is Jada Hardy, a senior at Eunice High School. Her parents are Shawn and Timmakah Hardy. If you had to live in another part of the world, where would you want to live and why? I would like to live in New York City because it’s a big city, and it actually snows there.

Jambalaya at Liberty Saturday

The “Rendez-vous des Cajuns” Cajun Music Radio & TV show Saturday at the Liberty Center at 6 p.m. will have a performance by Jambalaya Cajun Band with an appearance by the Basile Mardi Gras Association. Admission is $5. Show starts at 6 p.m. The Liberty opens at 4 p.m. Starting at 10 a.m.

Birth Announcements

Malaki Leger Jacob and Logan Leger of Opelousas announce the birth of their son, Malaki Lane Leger, born at Acadian Medical Center on Feb. 8 weighing 8 pounds and 15.4 ounces. Maternal grandmother is Suzanne Lavergne of Opelousas. Paternal grandmother is Melissa Leger of Morrow.
