A site off Gradnigo Island Road northwest of Opelousas has been found for the Confederate monument now on the St. Landry Parish Courthouse grounds, said Parish President Jessie Bellard.

Hoychick took office as Eunice city judge on Jan. 1, 2015.

Dr. Stearns appointed interim parish coroner

Dr. Zebediah Stearns was appointed interim St. Landry Parish coroner during the Parish Council meeting on Wednesday.
The Council also set an election on Nov. 8 for the coroner’s position.

The St. Landry Parish School Board budget usually is projected at break-even or even a surplus in recent years, but the finance director expects a small loss this year and more than $1 million next year.

Longtime coroner Dr. Russell Pavich dies

Dr. Russell Pavich, who served 26 years as St. Landry Parish coroner, died on June 10, according to an obituary.
Pavich was 70.
Pavich was elected coroner after serving one term as a police juror.

Authorities are searching for a 21-year-old former LSUE basketball player from Lafourche Parish who went missing in an Idaho river near Boise after visiting the state for a trip, according to a report on WDSU’s website.
