St. Mathilda PoBoy fundraiser set July 11 The St. Mathilda KPC Knights & Ladies Auxiliary will have a PoBoy fundraiser sale from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., Wednesday, July 11 at the Bishop Ceaser Center. A donation of $6 will be accepted.

Fireworks display to begin at 9 p.m. Wednesday

Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot advises extra precaution this 4th of July holiday when using fireworks. He added, “Please use caution when using fireworks paying attention to areas with tall grass or dry areas which easily ignite.

Preparations for the Fourth

By Myra Miller Lifestyle Editor Kenneth Peart is preparing for The Fourth of July holiday. He has two volunteer helper, his grandsons Carter Cashen and Nick Bertrand, at his business helping with everything needed for the big day.

A controlled burning on two properties

This past week Eunice citizens smelled smoke in the air. A controlled burned on properties along side Sittig Road and another piece of property behind Southeast Center, south of E. Maple Ave. and alongside the Perchville Road, were cleared and burned of trees and debris.

Grant approved for Sheriff’s office

Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz has announced that his office has been approved for funding under the FY 17 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program in the amount of $15,238 for the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Opelousas General supports LSUE Surg Tech program

OPELOUSAS – A gift from Opelousas General Health System will support Louisiana State University Eunice’s new surgical technology degree program, which welcomed its first class earlier this month.

Sprint car driver Jason Johnson dies

BEAVER DAM, Wis.-Sprint car racer Jason Johnson died Sunday from injuries suffered after a crash at Saturday night’s World of Outlaws race at Beaver Dam Raceway. He was 41. Johnson crashed on the 18th lap of the race at the Wisconsin track.

Acadiana Wind Symphony concert The Acadian Wind Symphony under the direction of Gerald Guilbeaux will present “Raise The Roof” at 7:30 p.m. June 29 in the Ducrest/Gilfry Auditorium at Angelle Hall on the UL Campus. Admission is free.
