New DA Pitre announces sentencing of murderer

In his first major announcement at St. Landry Parish district attorney, Chad Pitre announced that murderer Phillip Wayne DeWoody, 54, was sentenced Tuesday to three life sentences.

Free Family Fun event at First Baptist There will be a free Family Fun Hallelujah Hop event from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, March 27 at First Baptist Church. There will be a petting zoo, pony rides, food and drinks, carnival games, face painting, balloon animals, crafts and thousands of eggs.

St. Landry Parish president candidates finance reports

St. Landry St. Landry Parish president candidates Jessie Bellard and Dwain Buller filed 10-day and special pre-election reports with the state Board of Ethics. Bellard’s 10-day report listed total receipts of $6,083.45, disbursements of $1,529.05 and funds on hand of $10,857.40.

Stimulus money coming soon

The City of Eunice is about to get $3.6 million as its share of the $350 billion earmarked for state and local government in the $1.9 trillion stimulus bill. And St. Landry Parish is to get $15.9 million as its share of that American Rescue Plan Act.

Parish president election is Saturday

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday for an election that includes the race for St. Landry Parish president. Candidates are Jessie Bellard and Dwain Buller. At the end of early voting on March 13, 3,472 votes had been cast. Of those, 1,918 were cast in person and 1,554 absentee.
