EUNICE- It is with heavy hearts that the family of Linda G. Hebert announces her passing on Monday, January 18, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loved ones at the age of 71. A Celebration of Life will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m.

Joseph Chapman

Joseph Orage Chapman passed away on Monday, January 18, 2021 at the age of 79. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 20, 2021at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with Father Clinton Sensat officiating. Burial will follow in St. Thomas More Cemetery.

ELTL announces spring registration The ELTL will hold its spring registration now until Jan. 26. Players will play for 12 weeks and is set on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. The first date of play is set for Feb. 2. Registration fee is $25 which includes balls and an end of the season social.

Ronald Paul Bergeron passed away on Friday, January 15, 2021 at the age of 72. No services have been planned at this time.

State Health Department confirms first case of U.K. COVID variant in Louisiana

Today, the Louisiana Department of Health confirmed the state’s first identified case of the COVID-19 variant, SARS-CoV-2 B.1.1.7., frequently referred to as the U.K. variant because it is prevalent in the United Kingdom, in an individual in the Greater New Orleans area.

Device at Family Dollar proves harmless except for creating fear

A suspicious device found near the entrance of the Family Dollar Store in the Amy Shopping Center on East Laurel Avenue turned out to be harmless.

Hogs and alligators didn’t mix well

As I poke around among stories and recollections of times gone by, I am continually reminded of how isolated much of south Louisiana was before highways began to connect us, and that our isolation lasted for a good deal longer than we might expect.

Eunice Mardi Gras Run still planned

The Eunice Courir de Mardi Gras will take place although on a smaller scale than previous years, Captain Pat Frey said. Frey confirmed the run following a number of Mardi Gras event cancellations. “We are going to go by the governor’s guidelines, so we only going to to have a 150 runners,” he said.
