First baby of the year at Acadian Medical Center arrived on Jan. 1

The first baby of the year at Acadian Medical Center is Parker Reign Andrus born at 5:46 p.m. Jan. 1 and weighing 8 pounds and 9 ounces and measuring 20.5 inches in length. The parents of the baby are Caleb and Bailey Andrus of Ville Platte.

Crowley mayor cancels city’s Mardi Gras parade

There will be no city-sponsored Mardi Gras celebration in Crowley this year. Mayor Tim Monceaux issued a statement canceling the 2021 Carnival d’Acadie, the city-sponsored Mardi Gras event.

COVID-19 vaccination site list skips Eunice

The initial list of sites for the first round of COVID-19 public vaccinations skipped Eunice, but there are two locations listed in Opelousas. Starting Monday, Louisiana received the first limited supply of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine that will be available at 107 pharmacies across the state.

Police investigate shooting

Eunice Police are following leads, but do not know why a man was shot in the leg while walking in the 700 block of Lewis Street early Sunday. Police Chief Randy Fontenot said the shooting may be a case of mistaken identity.

Kevin Mark McGee passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at the age of 60. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 11, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Mowata Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 10, 2021 from 1 p.m. until 10 p.m.
