Parish budget balanced, but questions hover

An amended 2020 budget and a proposed 2021 budget were introduced at a special meeting Tuesday. The 2020 budget includes an ending balance of $2,123,405 that is carried forward into the 2021 ending balance. The 2020 beginning balance was $1,574,569 — A $548,836 difference.

Sheriff: 2 men arrested while committing burglaries

Two men were arrested while in the process of committing burglaries, according to St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz. The first arrest occurred on Nov. 20 after deputies were dispatched to the 2500 block of Landry Street in Opelousas to a business burglary.

Early voting count low for Dec. 5 election

Voters have Saturday to vote early for the Dec. 5 election. Early voting began Nov. 20 and the total votes in St. Landry Parish at the end of voting Tuesday stood at 366. There were 44 votes cast in the early voting poll at Eunice City Hall at the end of voting Tuesday.

Maple Avenue repaving delayed but not for long

The repaving of Maple Avenue is once again delayed, but not by much. Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot said he received notice from the state Department of Transportation and Development that the bid letting, once planned in October, is now scheduled for Jan. 13.
