Allen J. Manuel passed away on July 29, 2020 at his residence in Eunice at the age of 84. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2020 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Eunice. Interment will follow in the St. Paul Cemetery with Father Hampton Davis, officiating.

The St. Landry Parish School Board may do a reboot on its plan to start school on Aug. 20 and do so virtually. At least that seemed to be direction the Board was being steered by public comments and doubts among its members during more than six hours of meeting Tuesday.

Covid-19 testing

Free COVID 19 testing at the north side campus of Eunice High School was administered from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday. The Louisiana National Guard personnel out of Lafayette were on hand for the curbside testing. Another COVID 19 free testing will be performed at Eunice High School from 7 a.m.

Eunice man accused of stealing school laptops

A Eunice man is accused of stealing eight Chromebooks from a portable building classroom at Eunice Elementary. Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said Walter Michael Slaughter, 25, was charged with simple burglary.

3-way race for Eunice marshal develops

At the end of qualifying Friday, a three-way race for Eunice city marshal developed. Incumbent marshal Terry Darbonne is being challenged by Marcus Bergeron and Gerald Watley. The deadline to register to vote in person or by mail is Oct. 5.
