Armed robbery at Valero

Crowley Police detectives are investigating an armed robbery which occurred at the Valero, located at 1764 N. Parkerson Ave., at about 6:30 p.m. March 27. Upon entering the business the suspect brandished a firearm and demanded money from the cashier.

Woman’s body found outside Iota

Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office dputies were dispatched to the 900 block of Ye Ole Country Road just outside of Iota at 7:28 p.m. Thursday. Deputies found a white female outside of the residence and determined she was deceased, according to a news release from Sheriff K.P. Gibson.

First instance of apple snails damaging rice crop reported

An invasive species of snails has wiped out a 50-acre field of rice, the first time the pest has been known to do that in Louisiana. LSU AgCenter entomologist Blake Wilson said damaged rice and apple snails were found throughout the field. “There was no trace of rice.

Acadia School Board meeting to be rescheduled

The April meeting of the Acadia Parish School Board, scheduled for Monday has been postponed. Superintendent Scott Richard said that the board will announce a rescheduled date later this month.

Program to offer COVID-19 small business help

Gov. John Bel Edwards announced a new Louisiana Loan Portfolio Guaranty Program, which will offer loans of up to $100,000 to Louisiana small businesses of fewer than 100 employees that are impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.

No problem with curfew, chief says

The 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. St. Landry Parish curfew is not causing any issues, according to Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot. “There are still people moving about, but we can’t stop everybody,” he said. The curfew does allow people to travel through the city and people going to work.
