Decade’s top stories

The decade that ended Tuesday included the 2016 flooding that inundated 200 residences in Eunice and a tax election that changed rural St. Landry Parish for at least the next decade. Sunday’s edition listed some of the top stories for 2019.

Active election year ahead

This year promises to be an active one politically from the local to national level. Locally, the announcement by St. Landry Parish District Attorney Earl Taylor that he would be stepping down in February opened the race for that office.

Bessie Brunet LeDoux

A Funeral Service will be held for Bessie Brunet LeDoux on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church in Basile, with Reverend Paul Estes officiating. Interment will follow in Baptist Cemetery in Basile.

Eunice Police arrests

The following are arrests by Eunice Police. December 27 Catherine Cormier, 42, 3300 block of Prudhomme Road, Eunice. Theft less than $1,000. James P. Fancois, 46, 700 block of 5th Street, Eunice. Simple criminal damage to property.

Leslie Ilene Weber LaFleur

Leslie “Ilene” Weber LaFleur, 77, a resident of Eunice since 1967, passed away on December 28, 2019 at the age of 77. Ilene was born on July 26, 1942 in Lake Charles, LA and grew up in the Sulphur/Choupique area. She graduated from Sulphur High School in 1960, and began studies at USL.
