DOTD announces state projects

BATON ROUGE – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced Tuesday that 29 projects around the state received bids in June. Sixteen contractors presented apparent low bids totaling $190.5 million. Projects awarded and their apparent low bids included the following.

City council OKs appointments, 3 volunteers honored

The Eunice Board of Aldermen approved several appointments at its meeting Tuesday. The Board approved the following: — Sunny Guillory was named to the Civil Service Board to replaced Damingo Harrison, who resigned.

Mayor: City faces tight budget

Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot said this year’s city budget may be challenging. After Tuesday’s meeting, Fontenot said in the past the General Fund was augmented by a $450,000 transfer from the Utility Fund.

Parish school employees voted $1K pay raise

More than 1,800 full-time St. Landry Parish School Board employees are receiving a $1,000 annual pay raise. The raise was approved on a 5-3 vote at a meeting on July 3 ending about a month of public discussions. The approval moves the district’s starting teacher pay to $43,000 a year.

Eunice woman killed in U.S. 190 crash

Shortly before 3 p.m. on Monday, Louisiana State Police Troop D troopers began investigating a single-vehicle fatality crash on U.S. 190 near Bornsdall Road in Jefferson Davis Parish. The crash claimed the life of 36-year-old Chelsea Wilson of Eunice.
