Fugitive sought in Acadia Parish

Acadia Parish Sheriff’s deputies need help to locate Billy Joe Hanks. Hanks is described as a white male, 44 years of age, 6’1” tall and weighing 160 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes and his last known address is 206 Blue Bonnet Dr., Crowley.

Early morning shooting wounds 2

Two people were wounded in a shooting that occurred about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Sunrise Apartments on South Beulah, Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said. One person was shot in the stomach and was transferred from Acadian Medical Center to Lafayette General.

Former Eunice priest accused of child sex abuse

The late Rev. Kenneth Morvant, who was an associate pastor at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Eunice from 1966 to 1970, has been accused of child sex abuse.

Head Start control moving to St. Landry Parish School Board

The hiring process continued this week for Head Start jobs as the 10-center pre-school system is to transition to the control of the St. Landry Parish School Board. The school system’s control begins Saturday and it reopened almost every job associated with Head Start.

Stinky hole on West Maple

Potholes on West Maple Avenue are common, but there was something about the hole between 4th and 5th streets that caught City Marshal Terry Darbonne’s eye Tuesday afternoon. “For some reason out of the corner of my eye ... it looked like a hole that was bigger than normal,” he said.

Temporary buildings arrive at Eunice Elementary

Two temporary buildings have arrived at Eunice Elementary and two others are on their way as the school recovers from an Aug. 14 fire that destroyed a classroom and damaged the rest of the building. A Declaration of Extreme Public Emergency was approved by the St.
