Virginia Vick Pendergast passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2018, at the age of 98. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2018, at 11:00 AM. at First United Methodist Church in Eunice. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Rev Kemper Smith and Christy Brammer will officiate.

The following are arrests by Eunice Police. Jan. 26 Chassidy Miller Ponce, 40, 1600 block of Veteran Memorial Hwy., Eunice. Monetary instrument abuse. Holly Gaspard, 39, 3900 block of Yale St., Lake Charles. Probation violation. Devonne Sias, 22, St. George Street, Eunice.

United Way to recognize women The St. Landry-Evangeline United Way will hold its Women With Heart from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Opelousas Civic Center, 1638 Creswell Lane, Opelousas. The event honors outstanding women and includes a Power of the Purse auciton.

St. Landry Chamber Board members named

The St. Landry Chamber of Commerce announced its 2018 Board of Directors recently. Executive Committee members are Angela Cassimere, chairwoman; Ken Cochran, 2019 chairman-elect; and Loren Carriere, 2017 chairman. Vice chairmen are: Bill Rodier, area and economic development. Term expires Dec. 31.

St. Landry Chamber schedules banquet

The St. Landry Chamber will hold the 2018 Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet at the Opelousas Civic Center at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 19. This year’s theme, We Are St. Landry, will give limelight to individuals, businesses, and municipalities.

Concealed carry classes planned in Eunice

Non-profit classes for a concealed handgun permit are scheduled at the Masonic Lodge, 211 W. Park Ave., Eunice, according to an announcement from Maj. Eddie Thibodeaux of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. Class dates are Feb. 17, March 17, April 14, May 12, June 23, July 21, Aug. 18, Sept.

Tax proposals aired at forum

A Eunice community meeting, “Community Forum Building Our Future,” was held Wednesday in the Eunice High School auditorium to discuss upcoming bond propositions and the future of St. Landry Parish schools.
