Tips sought in vehicle theft near Church Point

Acadia Parish Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the theft of multiple vehicles that occurred in the 500 block of St. Margaret Road near Church Point between 2:30 and 5:30 a.m. July 25.
Two suspects, believed to be white males, stole multiple vehicles from the location.

Drones useful for surveying duck broods

Researchers with the LSU AgCenter School of Renewable Natural Resources have found using drones equipped with thermal cameras is more effective and efficient in detecting duck broods than the traditional method of using ground surveys when observing nesting areas.

School Board may extend COVID sick leave

The St. Landry Parish School Board approved extending COVID-19 sick leave for its employees through Dec. 31.
The recommendation was made by the Board’s Executive Committee at a meeting Monday in Opelousas. The full Board must approve the leave.

Approval sought for teachers to wear scrubs

As another pandemic year unfolds, the St. Landry Parish School Board will be asked to allow teachers to wear surgical uniforms — scrubs.
School Board member Myron Guillory, who championed the scrubs issue last year, asked that approval be given again for their use.

Eunice High leads parish in graduation rate

Eunice High School had the highest graduation rate among the six traditional high schools in St. Landry Parish.
The Class of 2020’s graduation rate was 91.1%, an increase of 11.1 percentage points from the Class of 2019.
The parish overall graduation rate for the Class of 2020 was 79.5%, up from 74.
