St. Landry Parish public schools are likely to require face masks in most settings when classes reopen Aug. 18. The School Board is to make a decision at its Aug. 5 meeting. “I definitely know that we want the students to be in the classroom learning. We don’t want them online.

EUNICE–A private funeral service for Martin Lee Chevis, 59, will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2021, at St. Mathilda Catholic Church in Eunice. A public visitation will be observed from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at Owens-Thomas Funeral Home in Eunice. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Eunice.

1 dead, deputy injured in standoff

The shooting of an Acadia Parish deputy during standoff at a Crowley apartment complex Sunday and the shooting death of a juvenile in Jennings Saturday night are related, according to police.
