Acadia Parish began an inmate litter abatement crew during June. Inmates picked up trash on 14 days in various areas of the parish. During the 14 days, 456 bags of trash were picked up along with numerous items including mattresses, washers, dryers, trampolines and tires. The program is a cooperative agreement between the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office and Acadia Parish Police Jury. (Submitted photo)

The music is returning

The Eunice Community Concert Band and Choir is returning for two performances this week.
Performances are scheduled at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the First Baptist Church, 331 Park Ave.
The group’s performances were suspended in 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Parish Government audit finds healthy finances

An annual audit of St. Landry Parish Government found its finances healthy and findings that involved budget variances.
Steve Moosa, CPA of Darnall, Sikes & Frederick, delivered the audit report at a meeting of the St. Landry Parish Council’s Administrative-Finance Committee on Wednesday.

Wreck was first thought to be shooting

Eunice Police dispatched to a report of possible gunfire and a fatality at 12th Street and U.S. 190 discovered something different.
The incident at about 1:15 a.m. Thursday had police contacting the coroner.
