BATON ROUGE – A bill that would restrict law enforcement officials from using no-knock warrants and chokeholds advanced Tuesday. Sen. Cleo Fields, D-Baton Rouge, moved his bill, SB34, through the Senate Judiciary B Committee, and it will next go to the Senate floor.

DHS announces extension of REAL ID full enforcement deadline

WASHINGTON – Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas announced the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is extending the REAL ID full enforcement date by 19 months, from Oct. 1 to May 3, 2023, due to circumstances resulting from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

School Board planning tax vote for raises, athletic facility improvements

Statewide mask mandated lifted

BATON ROUGE — Following months of sustained improvement in COVID hospitalizations and an increase in the supply and availability of vaccines, Gov. John Bel Edwards announced that some mitigation measures will be eased and the statewide mask mandate was lifted Wednesday.

BATON ROUGE — The St. Landry Parish School Board is among parishes sharing in $30 million of funding from the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) to pay for 2,970 seats in child care for children up to 3 years old for the 2021- 2022 school year.
