Garrett Allen Deshotel passed away on Friday, January 1, 2021 at the age of 21. No Services have been planned at this time. Garrett is survived by his mother, Susan Zelman Deshotel; one brother, Robbie Deshotel; one sister, Harley Deshotel and companion Cody Wilcox.

Olia Fontenot Sonnier passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at the age of 83. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Basile with Father Keenan Brown celebrant. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery.

Two unrestrained men die in single-vehicle crash near Lawtell

Two men died on New Year’s Day when the 2001 Chevrolet Corvette they were in crashed on La. 35 south of Lawtell. Louisiana State Police Troop I troopers were notified of a single-vehicle crash on La. 35 near Mandy Road in St. Landry Parish shortly after 4:30 a.m. Friday.

LSUE Chancellor’s List released

LSU Eunice recognizes 354 students who excelled in the Fall 2020 Semester with the honor of being named to the Chancellor’s List. To be eligible, students must have full-time status and maintain at least a 3.5 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale during the semester.
