I’m glad most people have abandoned chirping, “See ya in the funny papers.” Because that quaint farewell would reopen old wounds, since folks will definitely NOT be seeing me in the funny papers. You see, 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of my ill-fated attempt to become a professional cartoonist.

Over $34M in unclaimed property checks on the way

BLouisiana State Treasurer John Fleming, M.D., announced that about 143,000 unclaimed property checks totaling over $34 million will be mailed out on May 30 following a data match to update addresses with the Louisiana Department of Revenue.

Eunice residents charged in Acadia Parish burglaries

Two Eunice residents were arrested on May 18 regarding two separate burglaries. Acadia Parish Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence in northern Acadia Parish regarding a burglary.

Chataignier sewer rates to increase

To help offset the ever rising costs associated with the village’s sewer system, the Chataignier Village Council voted to introduce an ordinance that would increase the sewer rates based on how many gallons each customer consumes.

Will legislation lower auto insurance rates?

Acadiana journalist remembered

Carissa Hebert, who served as editor of the Ville Platte Gazette from 1998-2011, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, at the age of 59. A Catholic funeral service was held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice at 1 p.m. Saturday with Deacon Gary Gaudin officiating.
