Rayne High School teacher earns state’s top teacher honor

The Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) celebrated some of the state’s most outstanding teachers and leaders at the 18th Annual Cecil J. Picard Educator Excellence Awards Gala.

Moosa Memorial Hospital is fast disappearing as demolitions continues. The building was vacant since 2006 and in June St. Landry Parish President Jessie Bellard announced parish government would do the work. Bellard estimated the building is about 80,000 square feet. Much of the debris is being recycled. Bellard said metal is being sold. Bricks and concrete are being processed for road material, he said. (Photo by Harlan Kirgan)

Unemployment rates were up in the Tri-Parish area in June, but the workforce grew by 326 or 0.5% compared to June 2023. The Tri-Parish workforce in June totaled 69,281, up from 68,955 in June 2023, according to data released by the Louisiana Workforce Commission on July 26.
