Unrestrained woman dies in single-vehicle crash in parish

Shortly before 12:30 a.m. on June 4, troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I were notified of a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana La. 71 north of La. 361 in St. Landry Parish. The crash claimed the life of 55-year-old Melissa A. DeJean of Henderson.

Pedestrian killed on U.S . 90 in Acadia Parish crash

Shortly after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Louisiana State Police Troop I was notified of a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on U.S. 90, a short distance west of the city limits of Rayne in Acadia Parish. The crash claimed the life of 42-year-old Amanda Soileaux of Rayne.

A personal salute to Flag Day

It’s long past time for me to put a flagpole in the center of my front yard — one that holds a large American flag that dances proudly in the summer breeze. We bought such a flagpole for my father on his 70th birthday, shortly after he and my mother moved into a new house with a stately front yard.

St. Landry Parish Government to hold 2nd annual BBQ Festival

St. Landry Parish Government is gearing up for the 2023 St. Landry BBQ Fest Friday through Sunday at at the Yambilee Grounds and Ag Arena. There will also be a variety of arts and crafts vendors, a carnival with rides and activities, and food and drink vendors serving up barbecue and other dishes.

A bill to allow permitless concealed carry of firearms was withdrawn by a Republican lawmaker Tuesday, meaning that his efforts to push it are over this year. House Bill 131, authored by Rep.
