Louisiana French language news magazine coming to LPB

Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB) is teaming up with Télé-Louisiane to bring viewers La Veillée, a new 15-minute long weekly look at the happenings, culture, and people of Louisiana’s French language speaking population – all told in Louisiana French. The series premieres at 8:45 p.m.

Modern communications: Hung up on rudeness

Changing communications technology is one of life’s never-ending annoyances, and now we have a new agitation: voice messaging. Voice messaging allows smartphone owners to record their voice and send the recording to others as they would a text or a chat.

SLCC selected by Amazon as an education partner

SLCC announced that it has been selected as an education partner for Amazon’s Career Choice program, providing Amazon’s hourly employees with access to all of SLCC’s credit-bearing programs.

70th annual Red Mass observed

As is the tradition to mark the opening of the judicial year, Louisiana judges gathered this morning for the 70th annual Red Mass at St. Louis Cathedral in Jackson Square. Red Mass is held annually on the first Monday in October. Archbishop Gregory M.

Hollier, Osborn named as UL Lafayette’s Outstanding Alumni

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette Alumni Association has recognized Dr. Amelie A. Hollier and Harold G. Osborn III with the 2022 Outstanding Alumni Award. Hollier and Osborn received their awards during a reception held on Sept. 29 at the UL Lafayette Alumni Center.

Jerry Devillier interviewed for UL Lafayette archives

At 84 years old, Jerry Devillier has stories to tell and for more than three hours he told some of them during an interview for UL Lafayette’s traditional music course. Devillier is a preeminent Cajun harmonica player.

Tri-Parish jobless rates down

Tri-Parish unemployment rates are down compared to a year ago and the workforce is nearly unchanged, according to the Louisiana Workforce Commission. The Tri-Parish workforce — people working and those looking for a job — totaled 67,279 in August, the latest job number released by the Commission.
