Johnson: Louisiana is ready for ‘red tsunami’

Armed robber strikes Dollar General Store

The Dollar General Store on the 1700 block of the Chataignier Road just outside of Ville Platte was the site of an armed robbery at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, according to a news release from Evangeline Parish Sheriff Charles Guillory.

Retired State Fire Marshal K-9 Monty dies

BThe State Fire Marshal’s Office is mourning the death of a retired K-9 officer following the discovery of an extensive tumor. Monty, a 12-year-old golden Labrador who joined the SFM in 2012, died peacefully July 5.

Hospital employee honored for 50 years of service

Her one and only job for the past 50 years is working at the hospital in Eunice. Marcella Rider Prejean began her job and career 50 years ago at the age of 17. She began working at Moosa Memorial Hospital in data processing under the administrator and CEO Doug Longman.

Aldermen give extra time for property

The owner of property at 241 E. Oak Ave. has 30 days to remedy problems before the city takes action. The Eunice Board of Aldermen voted to allow owner Lawrence Vallery Jr. the extra time after it was explained he has health problems.

Burglary suspect falls asleep on the job

A burglary suspect was so tired from his illegal task at a Eunice business that he fell asleep on the job, according to Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot. The owner of Advanced Cast Weld found Jeremy Ryan Guidroz, 38, of the 500 block of Cedar Lane, Branch, asleep on an engine block at about 7 a.m.
