CDA meeting scheduled Monday Court Eunice 208 of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Monday at the Jeanmard Hall, North 3rd Street.

Legislators make history in congressional map veto override

Both chambers of the Legislature voted to override Gov. John Bel Edwards’ veto of congressional maps that did not include a second majority Black district. The vote was mostly along party lines.

Father’s Klan ties splintered family

This is the second in a three-part series When Leland Boyd woke up in the middle of the night as a child, he’d sometimes find his father Earcel in the bathroom, scrubbing his hands over and over. “The next day you’d see him, his hands would be just red,” Leland said.

Finally, a boring Supreme Court nominee

As predicted, Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation hearing were pretty boring. Almost yawn-worthy. She’s a fairly boring person to being with, which I suppose is a good thing since we don’t need to worry about high school classmates popping up with lurid stories about Michelob parties, etc.

What is a woman is really a serious question 

I’m glad there’s widespread confusion about what a woman is. I’ve been confused my entire life. In the most basic sense, the difference between a male and a female is that a female has two X chromosomes and a male has an X and a Y chromosome — or, in my experience, a “WHY” chromosome?

Vacant school fire believed to be arson

St Landry Crime Stoppers and the Louisiana State Fire Marshals need help in solving an arson in the city of Opelousas. On Feb. 28, just before 5:15 p.m., Opelousas firefighters responded to a report of a fire at the vacant Southwest Elementary building located in the 1200 block of Burr Street.

State of Acadia Parish declared as pretty good shape

Generally speaking, Acadia Parish is in pretty good shape. Parishwide sales tax revenues are up, schools are getting tech upgrades thanks to the infusion of federal dollars and the overall crime rate, while not down, is holding steady.
