The following are arrests reported by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. March 25-March 27 Jamie Andrus, 23, 800 block of Burr Street, Opelousas. Possession with intent to distribute Schedule I CDS, no insurance, no driver’s license, turning movements and required signals.

2022 Crawfish Etouffee Cook-off winners named

Huge crowds gathered Sunday at the Northwest Center pavilion and grounds to the annual Crawfish Etouffee Cook-off. The cook-off was held from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. People tasted, sampled, and voted on the best crawfish etouffee. There were 39 cooking booths participating in the cook-off.

Highland now focuses on building a learning foundation

LSUE emerges from pandemic with big plans, challenges

Like many higher education institutions, LSU Eunice emerged from the COVID-19 pandemic facing a drop in enrollment. LSUE fall enrollment was down 3.8% from the previous fall 2020 semester, according to a semi-annual financial report for the March LSU Board of Supervisors meeting.

Crash in Acadia Parish leaves 1 dead

On March 26, shortly after 8 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop I was notified of a two-vehicle fatality crash on Interstate 10 eastbound near mile marker 68 (between Egan and Jennings) in Acadia Parish. The crash claimed the life of 35-year-old Colette Babineaux of Lafayette.

Dorothy “Dot” Langlinais, 67, passed away on March 20, 2022, at her residence in Eunice. Dot was a beloved mother and grandmother who enjoyed having conversations, coffee, reading her bible, sharing her faith, working in her garden, and helping others.

Voters crush school tax proposals

St. Landry Parish voters overwhelmingly rejected three tax propositions in Saturday’s election. Proposition 1, which asked for a 9.9-mill, 10-year property tax to raise about $6.6 million annually for pay raises, was rejected by 75% vote 12,962 votes cast. There were 9,770 votes against the tax.
