Woman pleads guilty to drunken driving on Eunice school campus

An Arnaudville woman arrested on her third DUI in six weeks after driving onto an elementary school campus in Eunice has pleaded guilty in the case.
Skyla Briley, 29, pleaded guilty on Feb. 23 to first-offense driving while intoxicated before Judge M. Terrance Hoychick in Eunice City Court.

Louisiana moving 602 inmates from Angola to Allen Parish because of staffing shortage

Louisiana will transfer 602 people in prison at Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola to other correctional facilities over the next three months in order to cope with a chronic staffing shortage.
Allen Correctional Center in Kinder will absorb the extra capacity by adding 602 beds.

Confederate monument getting booted off courthouse grounds

A century-old Confederate monument on the St. Landry Parish Courthouse grounds is about to be removed.
A Parish Council committee voted unanimously to forward the decision on removing the monument to the full Council meeting on March 16.

The announcement was made Thursday in a news conference held in the Eunice City Council Chamber.

School Board rejects money to renovate 2 schools

The St. Landry Parish School Board on a 6-5 vote rejected using $15 million in COVID-19 -related funding to renovate Port Barre and Palmetto elementary schools.
The March 26 election where the school district has three tax propositions on the ballot played into the debate over the funding.
