A 36-year-old sex offender has been arrested by the St. Landry Parish Sex Offender Unit for failure to register as a sex offender and child predator, according to St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.
Joseph K. Miller, 400 block of College Road, is charged failure to register, failure to pay notification fees, failure to pay annual fees and failure to have special sex offender identification card.
Miller has been a Tier 1 registered sex offender in St. Landry Parish since Sept, 9, 2016, Guidroz said in a news release.
The St. Landry Parish Sex Offender Unit assessed Miller on Sept. 30, on his fees and the rules and regulations pertaining to sex offenders, Guidroz said. On Nov. 2, the Sex Offender Unit was notified by Eunice Police that Miller was in their jail on traffic charges, Guidroz said. Miller was later released from jail and failed to notify the Sex Offender Unit in order to perform his 72-hour post incarceration update as prescribed by law, he said. Miller failed to pay his community notification fees and 2016 annual fees, he said. Additionally, Miller failed to obtain a sex offender ID card since he registered on Sept. 9.
Guidroz added, “The unit’s sole responsibility in to investigate and track all sex offenders in the parish that are either found guilty in a court of law or attempt to do harm to our kids and citizens. I have zero tolerance for anyone not following the court orders and the law pertaining to sex offenders. My unit will arrest the offender without hesitation.”
