Police: Gas thefts total nearly $60K

A Basile man is accused of stealing nearly $60,000 worth of gasoline since March. Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot declined to name the victim of the theft. Charged on Aug. 25 was Nicholas Lejeune, 40, of the 3200 block of Stagg Avenue, Basile. He was originally charged with theft over $25,000.

Jitters over gun violence were evident at Friday night’s St. Landry Parish Jamboree. The jamboree was cut short when panic about a possible shooting overwhelmed the crowd at Donald Gardner Stadium.
