Eunice bicyclist killed in crash

A two-vehicle fatality crash involving a bicyclist on U.S. 190 near Eastpark Drive claimed the life of 54-year-old Michael Fontenot of Eunice. Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating the incident just before 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Lawtell rape suspect arrested

A joint investigation by St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s detectives and Opelousas Police officers resulted in the arrested of Jakob Sedrick Oakly, 22, 981 Prairie Ronde Highway, Opelousas, on charges of second-degree kidnapping, first-degree rape, second-degree battery and theft.

Scanner brought to parish jail to combat contraband

St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz reported the Linev System Clearpass Digital Full Body Security Scanner is being brought into the St. Landry Parish Jail to combat the introduction of contraband.
