Eunice man indicted in his brother’s shooting death

Jonah Gobert, 29, was indicted by a St. Landry Parish Grand Jury for killing his brother, Benjamin Hurks on Sept. 8, 2019. A true bill charging Gobert with second-degree murder was returned by jurors on Nov. 17 to 27th Judicial District Court Judge Alonzo Harris.

Eunice woman arrested, $30,500 in drugs seized

Eunice Police report arresting Jada Lawrence, 31, of the 800 block of South Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Eunice, after surveillance of her residence. A news release from Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot stated the investigation began after several complaints were received.

Ville Platte men sentenced for drug trafficking

Two Ville Platte men were sentenced in federal court for drug trafficking in the Ville Platte area. U.S. District Court Judge Robert R. Summerhays sentenced the two on Nov. 16, according to acting U.S. Attorney Alexander C. Van Hook.

Concealed carry class planned Saturday

The St Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office is holding a one-day a concealed carry permit class at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at 211 W. Park Ave., Eunice. The course is $100 and $80 for a spouse. The course includes fingerprints, notary or online help, application, classroom, range and a hot Cajun meal.
