Elton earns sweep over SEH

The Lady Indians moved one step closer to the District 4-1A title as Elton rolled to a 70-27 win Thursday over the St. Edmund Lady Jays.
The Indians sealed the double header sweep with a 64-38 victory over the Blue Jays.
The Lady Indians went on an 18-0 run to break open a close game as Elton (22-3, 10-0) took a 23-4 advantage into the second period.
AnnaBelle Fontenot and Jill Simpson scored buckets for the Lady Jays in the game’s first three minutes, but St. Edmund (9-14, 3-6) didn’t score again in the quarter.

Eunice wins in double feature thriller

Fans got their money’s worth Tuesday when Iota visited Eunice for a crucial District 5-3A doubleheader.
The Lady Cats opened the night with a 67-56 win and the Bobcats followed with a 90-87 overtime victory.
The Lady Cats (13-10, 6-3) began with an 11-7 first quarter run, sparked by two three-pointers from Shanyia Toussaint.
Stacie White converted a three-point play to push Eunice ahead, 11-4.
Kendall Miller scored on a thre-point play to help the Lady Bulldogs close the margin to 11-7 as the game moved to the second quarter.

Lady Jays win thriller

Lady Jay Mary Beth Lafeur scored on a lay-up with one second left to force a tie game after the Lady Bearcats came storming back from a 31-13 deficit.
After being fouled on the play, Lafleur then calmly hit the free throw to lift St. Edmund to a one point lead and AnnaBelle Fontenot then stole the inbounds pass as the Lady Jays grabbed a District 4-1A 43-42 win over the rival Basile Lady Bearcats.
In the beginning it didn’t seem the game would be determined at the final buzzer as the Lady Jays opened with an 18-1 run.

Blue Jays hold sports awards ceremony

St. Edmund held its Fall Sports award ceremony Monday as volleyball, football, trainers, film, stats, rodeo, cross country, dance team, cheerleaders and drum line were all recognized.
In football, the scholastic award for the highest GPA went to Christopher Berzas.
The Captain Award was presented to Drew Zaunbrecher and Brock Bieber.
Christopher Berzas, Kaden Fontenot and Nicholas Savoy were given the Coaches Award.
Garet Hebert, Christopher Berzas, Kaden Fontenot and Brad Miller were recognized for earning Academic All-State honors.

Eunice splits games with Pine Prairie

The Eunice High Lady Bobcats claimed their fourth district win with a 59-47 victory over Pine Prairie in basektball played Friday night at the Bobcat gym.
The Lady Bobcats opened the first quarter with a 7-0 start behind the play of Leah Walker, Shanyia Toussaint and Stacie White.
Pine Prairie’s Asia George scored the first two points with a driving layup to cut the Eunice lead to 7-2, but the Lady Cats responded as White drove to the Pine basket for two points for a 9-2 lead.
