There are many names in the history of Eunice High athletics that spring to mind when thinking of the greats. Carl Jory likely isn’t one of the first ones to come to mind in 2024.

Coast Guard honors LDWF agent

By Adam Einck aeinck@wlf.la.gov The U.S. Coast Guard awarded Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries’ (LDWF) Sgt. Stephen Rhodes with the Coast Guard Silver Lifesaving Medal, on Sept. 17.

Louisiana dove hunting season underway

The 2024 dove hunting season began Sept. 7 statewide, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) announced. Louisiana is divided into the North and South zones for dove season. The North Zone runs from Sept. 7-28, Oct. 5-Nov. 9 and Dec. 21-Jan. 21, 2025.

Teal season opens Saturday

By Trey Iles riles@wlf.la.gov The 2024 teal hunting season begins Saturday statewide and runs through Sept. 29, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) announced. Only teal species (blue-winged, green-winged and cinnamon teal) may be harvested during the early September season.

LDWF: Be mindful of displaced wildlife

In the aftermath of Hurricane Francine, wildlife species will seek higher ground and be displaced into habitat with which they may not be familiar.

EMTL teams fight for the top spots

The Eunice Mens Tennis League finished its third week of tennis play with Team D’Aubin taking an 8-6 win over Team Moosa in the early match, while Team Pitre defeated Team Manuel 8-5 in the late match.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) has opened a new boat ramp on Louisiana Highway 29 on the west side of I-49 at the Acadiana Conservation Corridor Wildlife Management Area (WMA).

Volleyball teams off to winning starts

Weather may have dampened their chance to play all of their matches this week. However, the Eunice High Lady Cat and St. Ed’s Lady Jay volleyball teams are both off to winning starts in the 2024 season thus far.

LSU pulls away from Nicholls in home opener, 44-21

Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier passed for a career-high six touchdowns and 302 yards through the air as No. 18 LSU rolled past Nicholls on Saturday night, 44-21. Nussmeier joined Joe Burrow and Jayden Daniels as the only Tiger quarterback to throw six or more touchdown passes in a single game.
