Bobcats fall to Knights in regionals

LONGVILLE – The South Beauregard Knights took advantage of early leads in two games as they eliminated the Eunice High Bobcats in the regional round of the Class 3A state playoffs here this past weekend in a best of three round.
Coach Scott Phillips’ Bobcats fell behind early in the opening game on Friday as the Knights opened the scoring when Jansen Fontenot singled and later scored as a result of a Bobcat error.
The Knights added to their lead in the third inning with two runs to go ahead by a 3-0 margin.

Blue Jays fall in playoffs

HOUMA – The Blue Jays and Lions should know each other pretty well by now.
Last season, No. 18 St. Edmund stunned No. 2 Covenant Christian Academy in the high school baseball playoffs with a 6-2 win.
In the fourth game of 2017, the Lions roared to a 16-5 win in the Blue Jays’ home opener.
When the two teams met again on Thursday night in the opening round of the Division II playoffs, No. 3 Covenant Christian ended the Blue Jays’ season with a 12-2 mercy rule win.

Next step - state track meet

ABBEVILLE – Some days just don’t go as planned and sometimes there are a few surprises along the way.
After winning both the St. Landry Parish and District 5-3A titles, the expectations were high for the Eunice High Lady Bobcats heading into the LHSAA Region II-3A meet held Thursday at Abbleville High.
Kaplan won the girls title with 80 points, while Eunice was seventh with 40 points.
E.D. White captured the boys division with 80 points as Eunice finished No. 10 with 28 points.

Fontenot signs with LSU Shreveport

Eunice High senior Gunner Fontenot signed on Monday to continue his baseball career at LSU-Shreveport. Fontenot, who has been selected to play in the LHSAA All-Star Game in May, is expected to catch for LSU-S next season according to LSU-Shreveport head coach Brent Lavalee.
“Gunner has all the qualities needed to be a great catcher. He has great leadership, can manage pitchers, and has great athleticism,” commented Lavalee, who is in his first year as head coach of the Pilots.
Fontenot will join a team which Lavalee said has 16 freshmen and 16 juniors on their roster.
