Early voting begins Saturday

Early voting for the July 11 election begins Saturday in Eunice and Opelousas.
Cheryl Milburn, St. Landry Parish registrar of voters, also said Saturday is the last day to register to vote online for the election at
The Presidential Preference Primary is on the ballot. Only Democrats and Republicans can cast a vote for the Presidential Preference Primary.
Grand Coteau voters will decide on a millage proposition.
Early voting continues through July 4.
Hours for voting are 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Eunice polling place changed approved

The St. Landry Parish Council approved changing the polling place from the building housing the Eunice Food Bank to the Eunice Career and Technical Center.
The move of the Ward 6 Precinct 14 polling location , OK’d at Wednesday’s Parish Council meeting, is necessary because the ownership of the building is about to change.
In March and in May the Eunice Board of Aldermen acted to give the building back to the American Legion. The Legion plans to sell the building t 251 Park Ave.

Voter signup drives planned at schools

A voter registration drive is to begin Tuesday in St. Landry Parish that will include public high schools and nursing homes.
Cheryl Milburn, registrar of voters, released a schedule that coincides with a the state Voter Registration Week.
Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin said, “The first step to participating in the electoral process is registering to vote.”
Ardoin added, “This fall, Louisianians will choose statewide leaders as well as vote for a host of local and municipal races, constitutional amendments and propositions.”

Registrar lists voter registration deadlines

Cheryl Milburn, St. Landry Parish registrar of voters, has announced that the last day to register to vote in person or by mail for the Oct. 12 election will be Sept. 11.
The deadline for online electronic registration will be Sept. 21.
Persons interested in participating in the upcoming election must register to vote and make any change to their records by this deadline.

Up to 15% turnout predicted for school tax election

Cheryl Milburn, St. Landry Parish registrar of voters, said the early turnout points to a 13 to 15 percent turnout Saturday.
There are 59,764 voters in St. Landry Parish registered for Saturday’s election.
Milburn’s estimate means almost 9,000 votes may be cast Saturday when polls are open from7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
There were 1,705 early votes cast in Saturday’s election in St. Landry Parish, according to statistics from the Louisiana Secretary of State’s website.
