Scavengers tear up trash bags, spread paper on street

On West Jane Street, located just north of Abbeville, there was a 25 yard stretch of trash that should not be there, according to Police Jury Wayne Touchet. Touchet discovered the mess Tuesday afternoon. He got down and went through the trash and saw addresses and names of who the trash belonged to.

Deville man pleads guilty to owning unregistered silencer

Jonathan Hayes, 32, of Deville pleaded guilty to possession of an unregistered firearm in U.S. District Court on April 16. U.S. Attorney David C. Joseph said Hayes admitted to owning a silencer that had not been registered.

Police: Suspect fled from officers in vehicle

A 24-year-old Morgan City man was booked into jail Monday following a vehicle chase, and Morgan City police learned that the suspect had borrowed the vehicle but never returned it, Police Chief James Blair said in a news release. —Deven W.

Henderson mulls property upkeep

The town of Henderson is considering entering into an intergovernmental agreement with St. Martin Parish government to help address the problem of poorly-maintained properties. The issue was raised by a resident’s complaint at the April 9 town council meeting.

Police: Drunk driver caused crash
