Police make drug bust at a local motel

A Morgan City man faces five drug-related charges after city police responded to a complaint about drug activity at a local motel, Police Chief James F. Blair said. Patrick G. Gaudet, 57, of Bush Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4 a.m. Thursday.

Improvements being made in Abbeville’s Magdalen Square

If something is happening in downtown Abbeville, there is a pretty decent chance it is happening in Magdalen Square. Now, the focal point of the city’s picturesque downtown is receiving a little facelift. The city has hired a contractor to replace bricks on the wall and on the ground in the square.

Avoyelles Police Jury puts tax propositions on Dec. 8 ballot

There will be two local tax propositions on the Dec. 8 ballot -- one parishwide and one in the Bunkie area. The most significant proposition is the parishwide tax package to support the Avoyelles Parish Police Jury’s solid waste collection and disposal program.
