Flood statistics prove importance of flood insurance

Every home is vulnerable to flooding. Just an inch of water can cause thousands of dollars’ worth of damage.  More than half of the dwellings damaged by Louisiana’s August floods were located in moderate- and low-risk areas.  Floods can happen anywhere and anytime.

Shooting victim in New Orleans said to be from Eunice

One of the people wounded in the Bourbon Street is said to be from Eunice, accoridng to a report by theadvocate.com. The 22-year-old man from Eunice reportedly suffered a shot to the knee. There were 10 victims in the shooting that occurred about 1:30 a.m.

Chilly temperatures pose increased risk of fire

While this is the time of year when Louisianans begin to receive a much-welcomed reprieve from the steamy, suffocating heat and humidity of summer, cooler temperatures also bring an increased risk of fires from improperly managed heating sources.

OMV accepting cash for certain transactions

Beginning Dec. 5 the Office of Motor Vehicles will accept cash for certain transactions. Last month it was announced that the OMV would no longer accept cash for transactions.

Fort DeRussy place on National Register of Historic Places, Louisiana Office of State Parks

More than 150 years after it ceased to operate as a military fort defending Red River, Fort DeRussy has been named to the National Register of Historic Places.     The U.S. National Park Service approved the Fort DeRussy State Historic Site for inclusion on the register, effective Sept. 23.

Loose trailer cited in fatal wreck on I-10 in Henderson

A three-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 westbound in Henderson at about 1 a.m. Tuesday claimed the life of 25-year-old Vineeth Keesara of Lafayette, a news release from Louisiana State Police Troop I reported.
