Savor the salvias before they’re gone

Early fall is when we say goodbye to most of the migratory hummingbirds that have been visiting our gardens since mid-summer. Even after they’ve left us to fly south for the winter, we can continue to savor the beauty of some of the flowers that fed them.

Claim victory over vines

As we transition into fall, many of us have been busy catching up on chores in the garden that went by the wayside during the summer — things like weeding flowerbeds and pulling up and replacing plants that succumbed to the heat. Here’s another task to add to your list: removing vines.

Testing finds mostly foreign shrimp at Louisiana Shrimp & Petroleum Fest

Genetic testing of seafood served at the recent Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Festival in Morgan City found four out of five vendors evaluated were serving foreign shrimp passed off as local.

Medicaid payments to rural hospitals boosted

Republican Gov. Jeff Landry’s administration unilaterally increased Medicaid payments by $22 million to seven hospitals, four of which are owned by a Landry political donor who is also a friend and hunting buddy of Donald Trump Jr.
