Teen charged in fatal hit and run

An 18-year-old teen, Phillip H. Fontenot, of Eunice, has been arrested in the March 1 fatal hit and run, according to Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot in a news release.
The teen has been charged with hit and run involving a fatality, which is a felony, the police chief said.
The penalty for this offense carries a fine of up to $5,000 and a prison sentence of up to 10 years, he said.
The incident at about 11 p.m. at West Maple Avenue and Jelks Street claimed the life of William “Billy” Heinen, 60, of Eunice.
“Evidence at the scene indicates the victim was struck by and/or run over by a vehicle. No vehicles were at the scene when officers arrived. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene,” the police chief said.
