Early voting begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Eunice City Hall for the May 4 Eunice sales tax election. Eunice voters are asked to decide on a 0.25 percent sales tax to raise police and firefighter pay.

Eunice mayor, police chief win big

Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot and Police Chief Randy Fontenot won re-election with overwhelming majorities in Tuesday’s election. Scott Fontenot won 82 percent of the vote in defeating challenger Tim Smith. With a 42 percent turnout, the incumbent garnered 2,141 votes to Smith’s 481.

4 of 14 Eunice city candidates file campaign disclosure reports

Four of the 14 candidates in the November elected have filed candidate reports with the Louisiana Board of Ethics. Incumbent Mayor Scott Fontenot and Police Chief Randy Fontenot have filed reports along with Tony Baltakis and Jackie Vallare, both candidates for the Board of Aldermen.

Early voting begins Tuesday for the Nov. 6 election. Voting continues from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Oct. 30 except Sunday, Oct. 28. Early voting will be held at the Eunice Municipal Complex on the first floor. The deadline to request an absentee by mail ballot is Nov. 2 by 4:30 p.m.
