LeBleu builds Blue Jay wrestling from scratch

For a long time, if you needed an amateur wrestling fix, you had to make a trip 10 minutes west up Highway 190. It’s a well-known trip. One arrives at the last red light on the west side of Eunice, the one with the Circle K station on your left on Bobcat Drive.

Lady Cats look to break pause on wins

The Eunice Lady Cats are looking to get back on track after a pair of losses. Eunice (5-19) dropped a game to the Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs 48-10 last Saturday and turned around and had a rough second half in falling to the Iota Lady Dogs 49-28.

9 Lady Jays notch scores, but Lavergne double-digits

Even when the St. Edmund Lady Jays have a chance to clear the bench and get other girls on the floor, junior guard Caroline Lavergne just can’t seem to help herself from dominating games at times.

Tales differ for Bobcat basketball

The Eunice Bobcats are getting ready for district play and continued to do so in splitting a pair of games against Rayne last Friday. The girls struggled out of the gate and never recovered, while the boys overwhelmed Rayne with a strong second quarter and didn’t look back.

Lady Jays overcome deficit for 44-42 victory over Grand Lake

By almost any measure, the St. Edmund Lady Jays basketball program has skated by nearly unchallenged nearly all season. At 14-3 heading into Tuesday’s non-district tilt with Grand Lake, they’d almost become accustomed to double-digit wins.

Lady Cats improve, but run hot and cold

The Eunice High Lady Cats are much improved over last season. When head coach Kassidi Thibodeaux took the helm a couple seasons ago, she inherited a winless program. Now in her third season, the effort and fight her team shows on a nightly basis has resulted in four wins so far this season.

St. Edmund splits with Iota

There’s nothing quite like a local matchup in high school sports. The type where the kids may know each other. The effort ramps up. It’s more than a win or loss. Bragging rights are at stake and when that happens, the emotion ramps up as well. That was the scenario last Friday night as St.
