Lady Cats cruise to win

The Lady Bobcats exploded for 12 runs in the second inning as Eunice High earned a 16-0 mercy-rule District 5-3A win over Port Barre.
The Lady Cats (7-9, 2-8) pushed across four runs in the bottom of the first frame, begun when Alissa Pate walked and scored on a hit by Natalie Vidrine.
Mckenzie Guillory doubled and later scored when Cassie Thomas reached on an error that also allowed Vidrine to score.
Thomas scored on a ground out by Jailyn Pavich to increase the Lady Cats’ lead to 4-0.

Blue Jays down Hornets

LAKE CHARLES – St. Edmund opened District 4-1A play with a 7-1 win over Grand Lake.
The Hornets (5-8, 1-1) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Jaren Sonnier singled and scored when Kris Reina reached on a fielder’s choice.
St. Edmund (11-6, 1-0) tied the game in the top of the second when Bryce Vidrine singled and scored on a hit by Will Turk.
The Blue Jays grabbed the lead with three runs in the top of the third, begun when Carter Lejeune singled, Brock Bieber reached on an error and Brad Miller was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Eunice boys win Bobcat Relays

The Eunice High boys won the 2019 Bobcat Relays, scoring 126 points to out distance second place Crowley.
The Gents finished with 84 points, followed by Beau Chene (66), Notre Dame (52), Opelousas Catholic (47), Ville Platte (45), Southside (36), Church Point (34), Mamou (23) and Westminster Christian Academy (132).
Iota (10), Sacred Heart of Ville Platte (10), Port Barre (9) and St. Edmund (40) also scored in the meet.
Eunice High’s Avery Lee won the javelin with a throw of 164.
Lee also finished second in the discus with a toss of 128-2.

All-District 5-3A team released

Eunice High senior Stacie White was named District 5-3A MVP, while three other Lady Bobcats earned all-district basketball honors.
White was joined on the first team by Northwest’s Katlyn Manuel and Khahli Malone along with Kameron Allen from Pine Prairie and Iota’s Kendall Miller.
Northwest’s Nicole Manuel was named the District Coach of the Year.
The second team included Pine Prairie’s Asia George, Marcy Miller from Crowley, Northwest’s Mary Leday along with Avery Young and Colleen Johnson from Iota.

Lady Jays cruise to wins

LAKE CHARLES – The Lady Jays exploded for 13 runs in the first inning as St. Emund cruised to a 16-1 mercy-rule victory over Lake Charles College Prep.
Jaedyn Soileau walked, Karleigh Soileau singled to open the game, while Kinsley Marcantel and Mary Beth Lafleur followed with back-to-back doubles.
Anna Bell Fontenot singled and Kenndy Ardoin followed with a double.
Three consecutive walks by Elizabeth McGee, Rebecca Benoit and Kaitlyn Lacour completed the first time through the Lady Jay lineup without an out.
