School Board hashes over substitute teacher pay increase

A St. Landry Parish School Board committee is recommending certified substitute teacher pay be raised from $70 to $90 a day. The raise would be for short term substitutes. The agenda included a raise for long-term substitutes from $165 a day to $175 a day.

Karen Fruge, a first year teacher at Highland Early Learning Center, has been nominated for St. Landry Parish’s New Teacher of the Year. She received the honor of New Teacher of the Year at Highland last year. Fruge began teaching at Highland in 2023.

UL Lafayette, Chilean students to partner for photovoltaic, green hydrogen research

Student researchers from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and the University of Magallanes in Chile will collaborate to study photovoltaic farms, green hydrogen and workforce development thanks to a $50,000 grant awarded via the 2023 U.S.-Southern Cone Innovation Fund Grant Competition.
