UL Lafayette honors excellence with Eminent Faculty Awards

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette has recognized five exemplary educators as its 2023 Eminent Faculty class. The UL Lafayette Foundation sponsors the annual awards. They are the highest recognition the University confers on faculty.

Baton Rouge– Investigators with the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) Forestry Enforcement Division arrested 32-year-old Michael Shawn Setliff of Flatwoods, Louisiana, on three counts of simple arson for fires set in Grant Parish.

Concealed carry permit class set Saturday The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office will host a one day concealed carry permit training class on Saturday, Sept. 23 beginning at 7:30 a.m. at 211 West Park in Eunice. The course is $100 and $80 for a spouse or renewal.

Ever wondered why some plants in the garden thrive while others struggle? The answer might be hidden beneath the surface – in the secret of soil pH. Think of soil pH as a scale that measures how acidic or alkaline your soil is. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14, with 7 being neutral.

Susan Orlean, the bestselling author of the nonfiction book “The Orchid Thief” and longtime staff writer for The New Yorker magazine, will be the speaker for UL Lafayette’s 2023 Flora Plonsky Levy Lecture.
