By late morning smoke was evident in Eunice. Fire Chief Chaise Brown said the smoke is coming from fires in Sabine Parish. According to The Advocate, Sabine Parish has been hit particularly hard over the past few days with about 2,000 acres burned.

Parish president qualifying decision appealed

LSU awarded 1,039 degrees to graduates at the university’s 311th commencement exercises Aug. 11, the highest number of degrees awarded during summer commencement ever. The previous record was 969 graduates in summer 2021.

Miss Eunice, Teen Miss Eunice set Aug. 26 The Eunice Pageant Organization, along with the city of Eunice, will present a Miss Eunice Pageant at 7 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Northwest Community Center. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Tickets can be purchased from any contestant or at the door for $10.

Parish Council OKs ordinance creating planning commission

A parish planning commission is to be created after the St. Landry Parish Council approved an ordinance for it at Wednesday’s meeting. The ordinance passed unanimously without comment from Council members or at a public hearing.
