Stine acquires Fruge Lumber

Stine Home & Yard is bringing its well-known brand of home improvement and building materials to Eunice and surrounding communities. Stine CEO Dennis Stine reports that the Sulphur based company has acquired the assets of a long-time community business, Fruge Lumber.

Sex offenders are classed into three tiers of risk

Guests of St. Landry Parish Deputy Chief Eddie Thibodeaux, Sgt. Eric Reed and Sgt. Karen Frilot of the sex offender division talked to the Rotarians. There are 190 active registered sex offenders in St. Landry Parish.

Wood fire near Church Point

Area firefighters fought a timber fire on about 80 acres off La. 358 and Houston Richard Road on Thursday. About 20 firefighers and at least half dozen vehicles were involved in fighting the fire in 100-plus heat. Fire District 3 Capt.

Is there a bright side to the heat?

If there is a bright side to the seemingly endless 100-plus degree days is the summer grass cutting probably ended. And, there is one person who probably knows more than anyone in Eunice about grass-cutting and that’s Robert Johnson, recreation director.

Central Middle principal arrested

The principal of Central Middle School in Eunice is accused of encouraging two juvenile students to fight in his presence. Eunice Police Chief Kyle LeBouef reported Brett Simien, 48, of Church Point, was arrested on Thursday on misdemeanor warrant for contributing to the delinquency of juveniles.
