Adult Educational Cultural Lecture series at library The Louisiana Endowment for Humanities will present Adult Educational Cultural Lecture Series at the Eunice Public Library. On Sept. 30, Jerry DeVillier will speak on The Harmonica and Cajun Music at 6 p.m. A reception will be held at 5:30 p.m.

Guidry named Acadia Parish registrar of voters

Joni Guidry has been appointed the new Acadia Parish registrar of voters following the recent retirement of long-time registrar Billie Myer. During the Sept. 9 regular meeting of the Acadia Parish Police Jury, Guidry was nominated by Police Juror Troy Lantz.
The 52nd Annual Mamou Cajun Music Festival was held Sept. 12 and 13.. Opening the festival on Friday were Cajun Strong and Wayne Toups, Jamey Bearb, and Cajun Friends. The music on Saturday featured performances by Jace Goulas and the Breaux Bridge Aces, 4 Horses, Fred Charlie and the Acadiana Cajuns, Dylan Aucoin and the Judice Ramblers, The Revelers, and Geno Delafose and French Rockin’ Boogie. Saturday also featured an honoree presentation to Fred Charlie, who is a Cajun musician, DJ, and preservationist

St. Landry early voting dates set

Early voting for the Oct. 11 election will be held from Sept. 27 to Oct. 4 with the exception of Sunday, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the courthouse in Opelousas. There will be no early voting in Eunice.

Robert “Bob” Manuel, a lifelong Ville Platte resident and dedicated community leader, has been named the Cotton Festival king. The 71st annual Louisiana Cotton Festival will be held from Oct. 6 to 12.
