Eunice Food Bank Food Drive needs volunteers, donations

The season for giving is almost here. The annual Eunice Food Bank Food Drive is scheduled for Dec. 9 from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m.

School tax of 9.9 mills proposed by panel

The St. Landry Parish School Board is prepared to move a proposed parishwide 9.9-mill property tax resolution forward for consideration at a December meeting, following a Finance Committee decision on Tuesday night.

Lemelle appointed Central Middle principal

Chad Lemelle arrives at Central Middle School as its new principal. Lemelle served as the assistant principal at Eunice High School prior to his post at Central Middle. Lemelle said, “It is a true honor and privilege to be selected to serve as the new principal of Central Middle School.

Clerk warns about deed scam

St. Landry Parish Clerk of Court Charles Jagneaux is warning the public about Recorded Deed Notice Scam being sent out to the public. The scam begins with a letter urging property owners obtain a copy of their Property Assessment Profile.

Native gardens, start small

Most native gardeners are not purists and start small. It is not necessary to transform your entire yard into a native prairie. Starting small can be accomplished in a variety of ways. It can be as simple as adding native plants to blend with current plants.

Council eyes more derelict properties

Derelict properties were again the main topic of discussion at a Eunice City Council meeting as the mayor and council members discussed four structures deemed an “imminent danger to (the) public.” Those four properties are 421 Acadia St., 416 Pierotti St., 1141 West Ash Ave. and 910 West Ash Ave.

St. Landry Parish worker busted

A St. Landry Parish animal control employee was snared in a drug bust on Thursday. Rasheed Saleem Rideaux, 46, of the 300 block of Azeline Drive, Opelousas, is charged with possession with intent to distribute oxycodone and Adderall.
