Three Eunice Recreation Department summer programs for youths starts with Hunting, Boating, Fishing, Archery Camp from June 7 to 11. The camp is for youths 10 to 15 years old. Registration for the camps opens at 8 a.m. Wednesday online at www.eunicerec.com.

The St. Landry Parish Council continued to ponder voting precincts in a special meeting. Chairman Dexter Brown introduced an ordinance on Monday to split some precincts in what’s called an “alpha split” that divides voters alphabetically in a polling place.

Surveillance system eyed for Eunice

Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot was authorized by the Board of Aldermen to obtain prices for a surveillance system for high-crime areas of Eunice. The move follows a shooting at Laurel Avenue and Nimitz Street that killed two people include one man who was bystander.

Johnson, Kennedy introduce bill to transfer Liberty Theatre annex

Prairie society returns for annual meeting

The Cajun Prairie Habitat Preservation Society held its spring meeting and tours Saturday with 40 people in attendance. The tour includes restoration sites at Duralde and Eunice. “We had a good turnout and everybody was excited to get back to normal,” Steve Nevitt, society president, said.
