Former ag teacher says Guatemala mission encourages self-sufficiency

Want to provide a needy family in Guatemala with a way to provide food and income for their family? Former Church Point and Iota high school agricultural teacher Randy Miller has found a calling in retirement, working on the Animal Project, a part of Mission Housing Ministries.

Move on to bring early voting to Eunice

Early voting for the next election involving Eunice voters may be held in Eunice. Early voting for all of St. Landry Parish now occurs in the registrar of voters office at the courthouse in Opelousas. Eunice Alderman Dale Soileau said Eunice voters don’t want to go to Opelousas.

Parade, concert today

Eight tons of food and other items were collected Tuesday during the 30th annual Eunice Food Bank Food Drive. Last year’s annual food drive Eunice Food Bank collected a little over five tons of food items and goods.

Senate, House seats to be decided in Saturday voting

Early voting numbers show interest in Saturday’s election may be lagging behind the November vote, which included the presidential election. Early voting for Saturday election ended Dec. 3 with 174,889 votes cast in the state compared to 531,555 in November.

The following are from the December files of The Eunice News. Hubert “Kutch” Rougeau was elected president of the Eunice Chamber of Commerce. Other officers were Mrs. Myrtle McManus, first vice president; and Ray Kron, second vice president. The outgoing president was Yvonne Tujague.

Christmas season arriving in a big way this week

The Christmas season in Eunice is arriving in a big way this week with the Eunice Kiwanis Christmas Parade, the Christmas Concert at the Liberty Center and a food drive. The Eunice Food Bank Food Drive. The food drive is set from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the food bank, 251 W. Park Ave.

Prescription drug disposal

A prescription drug drop-box is in place by the dispatch office at the Eunice Police Department. The box, which is intended for outdated or no longer needed prescription drugs, is available seven days a week and 24 hours a day. The box is placed in the department, 300 S. 2nd St.
