Administrative Day cancelled
The Eunice Rotary Club has cancelled its annual Administrative Professionals’ Day scheduled for the end of April.
With the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and much discussion and many weeks of planning the Rotary has decided to cancel the event.

Eunice Symphony Orchestra postponed
The Eunice Symphony Orchestra, now in its 19th year, is gearing up for its concert, “Classics by Candlelight.”
However with the conornavirus the orchestra made a decision to posposed the April concert to a later date.

2nd virus death reported in parish

A second death in St. Landry Parish was reported Friday by the Louisiana Department of Health. The first death in the parish was reported on Monday.
The parish had 68 cases as of the noon Friday reported in the state coronavirus COVID-19 update. Wednesday’s parish count was 45 cases in St. Landry Parish.
On Friday, there were 370 coronavirus deaths in the state, 10,297 cases reported, 1,707 people in hospitals from the virus and 535 people on ventilators.
The virus was confirmed in 61 of the 64 parishes.

Eunice mayor closes city parks, playgrounds, recreation facilities

Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot announced the closing of the city’s parks, playgrounds and recreation facilities effective today.
The mayor’s order is in compliance with Gov. John Bel Edwards’ proclamation about staying at home.
The City of Eunice is committed to Louisiana’s effort of slowing the spread of COVID-19 and protecting the citizens of our community, Fontenot stated.

Eunice had first positive COVID-19 test; death reported in St. Landry Parish

St. Landry Parish has its first reported death from the coronavirus COVID-19, St. Landry Parish has 15 tested cases for the virus and the first positive case is being reported at Eunice’s Acadian Medical Center.
The death and case total for the parish are from the Louisiana Department of Health noon update.
There are no details from the health department about the cases or the death.
There are 4,025 cases in the state, 185 deaths in the state, 1,158 people in hospitals and 385 people are on ventilators.
Positive cases have been found in 59 of the 64 parishes.
