Council settles clerk’s request

A question about how much the St. Landry Parish Government should pay the clerk of court for record storage in a building the clerk owns in Opelousas seems to be settled. The Parish Council approved Clerk of Court Charles Jagneaux’s request for funding at its meeting on Wednesday in Opelousas.

The Eunice Rotary Club is accepting nominations for the 2024 Citizen of the Year Award. The award recognizes someone who has shown extraordinary community spirit and given outstanding service to the greater Eunice community in 2024, although service from other years may also be considered.

Cheer sponsors are to be coaches

High school and junior high school cheer sponsors will likely become cheer coaches in St. Landry Parish. And the cheer coaches will be be paid a stipend just like the football, basketball and other athletic coaches.

Edwards crony Cecil Brown dies

Cecil Brown, the Eunice man who was a key player with former Gov. Edwin Edwards, died Feb. 12 at his home, according to a family obituary. Brown was 80 years old. Brown was described as the “front man” for Edwards in bribery schemes.

City Lake searched for body

After an intense search for the body of a missing woman on Tuesday afternoon at the Eunice City Lake, the body was found near her burned Toyota RAV4 near Beggs. The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office announced at 6:42 p.m.

Parish to open warming shelter in Opelousas

St. Landry Parish Government will be opening a warming shelter at 5 p.m. today and will remain open until noon Friday. Shelter location: Former Indian Hills Country Club | 1141 E. Prudhomme St., Opelousas.
