Finally justice for maligned Covington Catholic student

Less than two weeks from now, thousands of pro-life teenagers will converge on the nation’s capital to rally in support of the unborn at the 47th annual March for Life. Unfortunately, many people are uncomfortable with the idea that millennials would raise their voices to oppose abortion.

George Washington’s ignored example

Have I benefited from nepotism and cronyism? Sure. But at least I feel guilty about it. Nepotism, says Dictionary.com, is “patronage bestowed or favoritism shown on the basis of family relationship, as in business and politics.” The concept is alive and well in Washington, D.C.

Cloud takes office as D28 senator

Heather Cloud is the new state senator for Senate District 28. The Ville Platte Republican replaces former Sen. Eric LaFleur. Cloud was one of 20 new members sworn in during an organizational session of the Senate at the State Capitol in Baton Rouge Monday.

Landry announces for district judge in 15th District

Michael H. Landry has announced his intention to seek election to the 15th Judicial District Court. The November election will fill the vacancy to be left by the retirement of Judge John Trahan. Landry is the son of the late J.W. Landry Jr. and Lois Landry.

Privat announces for district judge in 15th District

Acadia Parish attorney Scott Privat announced his candidacy for the soon-to-be-vacated 15th Judicial District C District Judge Division “A” seat at the Grand Opera House Thursday night. The primary election will be held on Nov. 3, with early voting from Oct. 20 to 27.

Aldermen condemn property

Property at 241 Julia Street was condemned by the Eunice Board of Aldermen at Tuesday’s monthly meeting. Ginny Moody, city clerk, said the vote on condemnation had been delayed from the Board’s December meeting because there was a potential buyer. But the buyer never materialized.

The St. Landry Parish School system released the following message at 12:45 p.m. today. As of 8 AM this morning, the St. Landry Parish School Board technology department became aware of a possible cyber threat.
